Good win in tough conditions

Burry Port 43 – 12 Penybanc
Seven try victory for Burry Port in difficult conditions puts pressure on promotion rivals.
Burry Port started the match with good intention and despite the drizzle and heavy conditions played with good intentions to throw the ball wide. Winger Tom Bowen was first to score a try crossing soon after the start. Burry Port were camped in the Penybanc 22 and were unlucky not to improve on their lead but for some heroic Penybanc defence. To the credit of the visitors they rode out the storm and went up-field and from a period of pressure they scored a well taken try to level the score at 5 all. The Blacks struck back with some fine interplay with Centre Declan Knox crashing over under the posts. Ben Williams added the conversion to make it 12-5. Winger Tom Bowen got his brace when he finished off a good move crossing the line to make the score 17 – 5 at half time.
As the game opened up, livewire flanker Tom Rees finished off a good forwards move combining with Iwan Roberts, and Ben Williams added the extras to make it 24-5. Penybanc were not disheartened and showed good handling skills as they kept possession and went through the phases, and it was Burry Port’s turn to defend and with good control Penybanc crossed for a well deserved converted try to draw closer at 24 – 12. This was to be their last score as Burry Port took control of the match and Tom Rees crossed for his second with Williams slotting over the conversion. Soon after, sub Adam Davies was able to show his pace when he scored two tries from distance with Williams converting one. The match ended in typical fashion with Burry Port on the attack but a dogged and hard working Penybanc defence denying another score for Adam Davies.
Final Score: Burry Port 43 – 12 Penybanc.
Coach Gareth Gravell said ‘The boys showed high skill levels to get 7 tries in very difficult circumstances and Penybanc were no mugs and showed they came down here with a clear game plan to get a win. It was a game that could easily have been a banana skin for us but we kept our focus and did the right things in the right areas. There were some fine individual performances but ultimately it was an excellent team performance. And it was great to see another Youth team player make his debut for us, Kuba put in a very decent performance at 2nd row and will give us more selection headaches for the rest of the season... which is never a bad thing"
