At The Heart of our Community

Burry Port RFC – At The Beating Heart of our Community.

Whilst the early termination of the Season brings frustration with the loss of the eagerly awaited promotion following an excellent season, I am proud to see the club continuing its community commitment during this unprecedented time.

Members of the club, led by the committee have been engaged in working with the local Co-op store to deliver food supplies to those who are vulnerable during the Covid 19 self isolating period.

Further activities have taken place when members have been involved in distributing similar packages created by Castell Howell and The Scarlets Rugby Region.

Well done to all those involved, I am proud to part of a club associated with that community based work and proud to know those individuals involved. Please carry on the good work. I don’t want to name individuals for fear of missing someone out but you know who you are – Diolch/thank you.

The committee has been busy ensuring that the club is secured and the property within made safe. A lot of work has been undertaken and I am grateful to all those who undertook the work. Discussions are on-going with various companies to ensure that the loss of income does not affect the club. I am pleased to confirm that such companies have been reasonable and the financial position is settled, substantially reducing the financial risk to the club. I am again grateful to the club officers and committee members for their work in this regard. A thankless task and unglamorous but one that is essential for the club future. Over the years, many people are often very quick to criticise “the committee”. It is important to appreciate the unseen work that goes on constantly out of our sight. When you see them – thank them, it will go a long way and be appreciated. They are looking after OUR club.

Mens First team league position.

Contact has been made with the WRU to establish the exact details of the reasons why the season was declared null and void. Our position as undefeated leaders appeared to merit a different consideration from other leagues. The English RFU have used a formulae to identify winners and losers to continue with promotion and relegation in some leagues. The WRU have been candid in explaining their thinking and in particular that they had to have a uniform and consistent approach to all leagues. The position was different in each league with some clubs still having several games to play and the winners and losers would remain unclear even using a formulae.

I am grateful again to those who have taken the time to pursue this. Nothing should deviate us from appreciating the achievements of our players this year, the support seen on the touchline game after game, home and away shows how much it means to everyone in Burry Port. The players and coaching staff should feel very proud of their achievements. I am proud to be the President of the club and I know that whenever the 20/21 season starts we will all be there cheering our teams on again and I believe that the team spirit that exists will see us having a successful season again.

It is important that we stay in touch with each other and show our support for the club both now and when the new season starts. I know all our teams, players, coaches and supporters of all our teams will look forward to the new season.
