Burry Port 40 - 0 Nantgaredig. Burry Port produced a fine all round display to gain a six-try bonus point win against unbeaten Nantgaredig at the Memorial Park to climb up to second place in the league. Burry Port started with a high intensity and applied pressure to the visitors with some good driving runs by Dylan Evans and Duane Evans. Nantgaredig, who had not lost a game before today, were organised in defence and had to clear their line in the early exchanges. Burry Port played with a high tempo and Nantgaredig’s defence could not cope with the slick handling and powerful running. Adam Rudall crossed for the first after ten minutes finishing off a good move cutting back inside and scoring close to the posts. Ben Williams converted. Good field position saw Hooker Iwan Roberts cross after a number of attacking scrums and he showed strength and determination to cross the line taking a number of defenders with him. Williams converted. Nantgaredig tried to play positive rugby and were looking sharp with ball in hand, but a big defence limited them to scraps of possession. Burry Port scrum half crossed on 30 minutes and converted his own try, with Nantgaredig having no answer to the pace of the game. Livewire flanker Tom Rees, who was good in defence, popped up to finish off a good move and was at hand to touch down in the corner to claim a bonus point on 36 minutes. The touchline conversion by Williams made the half time score Burry Port 28-0 Nantgaredig.
The second half saw Nantgaredig try to re-group and keep hold of the ball, but apart from a good spell towards the end of the game when Burry Port were down to 13 players, they were looking nervous and did not put together any phases of play to stretch the home defence. There were big hits going in from both sides and you could not fault the commitment from both sides. After a good drive up-field, Hooker Iwan Roberts crashed over in the corner and Williams hit the post with the conversion. With a strong bench, Burry Port brought on fresh legs and continued to look dangerous with Declan Knox playing well in attack and solid in defence. Tom Bowen cut a good angle and side-stepped the final defender to score near the posts and Williams duly converted. Natgaredig will be disappointed with this display, but did not have the time or possession to develop their phases and were well beaten in a day they will want to forget. Burry Port can look at this result as an improvement from last week and it sets out their stall as promotion candidates. Burry Port host St Clears next weekend in the 3rd Round of the Bowl, a competition they won last season in a memorable final in Cardiff last May.
