The Blacks dig deep for away win against promotion rivals.

Burry Port travelled to Llandybie who hadn't lost a Home game for over 2 years and recorded a fine away victory in blustery conditions and returned home with a well deserved 19-14 win. The Blacks lost the toss and played with a strong wind and dominated territory in the first half. Llandybie, who have not lost at home for over a year, attacked the Burry Port scrum with some effect sent a message to Burry Port that they were up for the challenge. The first score came to Llandybie, who attacked the blind side and with good handling crossed for a try in the corner to make the score Llandybie 5 – 0 Burry Port. Burry Port wasted no time to exhort pressure and dominated the next 20 minutes with territory and possession. A well worked move saw full back Stef Powell slide over out wide and he added the conversion to make it Llandybie 5 – 7 Burry Port. The Blacks were camped in the Llandybie 22 and went close on several occasions with the last pass going astray or a fumble spoiling the try. Flanker Tom Rees finished off a good move in the corner, but controversially the Llandybie linesman raised his flag much to the annoyance of the Burry Port team who were convinced that a try was scored. The second half came to a frustrating end with the score 5 – 7 to Burry Port. 
Llandybie fancied their chances in the second half and playing a territorial game they nudged ahead 8 -7 after a penalty for a Burry Port infringement. Burry Port played with enthusiasm and looked to play an off loading game and looked dangerous into the wind as they did in the first half. A good passage of play resulted in second row Rhys Gravell crashing over under the posts, and replacement Ben Williams slotted over the extras to make it 8 – 14 to Burry Port. It was an exciting game and Llandybie struck back again with a penalty to draw level at 14 all, but with a dominant defence Burry Port didn’t look like conceding another try. With the game drawing to a conclusion, and aggressive Burry Port defence put pressure on Llanybie and this resulted in a series of attacking scrums and line outs. The high tempo pace of the Burry Port pack stretched the home defence to the maximum and an overlap eventually came to Tom Rees who raced over without the linesman denying him for a second time. The ref blew up soon after to give the travelling supporters plenty to cheer for with a 14 – 19 win. This hard earned victory propels the Blacks upwards in a highly competitive 3 West B table, and the Blacks still have a few games in hand over their rivals.
Coach Gareth Gravell said ‘I’m proud of that performance, not many teams will go to Llandybie and win. It was a good performance in difficult conditions, we created a lot of chances but there are a lot of improvements to be made. It'll go down as a well deserved gritty away win.’
