With several key players missing this game was always going to be a tough ask and the lady Blacks knew that to have any chance of winning they had to be at their best and to be fair thats exactly what they were.
From the off the Blacks looked the sharper and fitter team and were spreading the ball wide at every oppurtunity. The Backline were causing the Home team all sorts of problems with the pace and angles of running. The 1st try came from a lovely break by Catrina Bowen who drew the last defender to put supporting centre Mari Jenkins over under the posts for an excellent try.
Burry Port continued to use the Backs to good effect with the Blaina team trying to use their heavy pack to work their way into the game but it was Burry Port who were winning the collisions in the contact which again resulted them in turning ball over and releasing workhorse 2nd Row Rox Perego into space and a well timed pass by her to Dionne Evason seen the winger race in for another fine try. 12- 0
With both packs having a good old battle at scrum and competing every breakdown it was turning into a very good game.
The Home team were making good yards with good forward play and were camped on Burry Ports tryline for the end of the 1st half, and after some great brave defending Burry Port just couldnt hold out and Blaina crashed over for a try at the stroke of half time.
Start of the 2nd half and a mistake from kick off and a lapse of concentration by Burry Port seen Bliana capitalise and power over for a quick try to make it 12-10.
Burry Port regathered themselves and still were throwing the ball wide and off-loading the best they could to try and wear the home team down. The Burry Port Pack got into the game more with some powerful carries that got them over the gainline.
The home team were struggling to cope at times and were giving away a lot of penalities and as is the Burry Port way the Blacks "tapped and go" on every Pen to keep the pace of the game up, Betsan Williams playing her 1st game at 9 was loving her role and with plenty of eager carries in Hannah Stiles, Kelly Gravell, Awen Rosser and the rest of the pack things contiuned to get better for the Blacks.
Catrina Bowen was next to score, again after some quick pens and neat hands managed to burst her way over the try line, again converted by Stiles to make it 19 -10 and now Burry Port looked like they could go on and win the game.
Blaina were still in the game and it was only some good defending that was keeping them for scoring, they had many charges at the Burry Port try line which took a mighty effort to keep them out.
A break down field by Burry Port turned defence into attack and again after some lovely off loading put centre Mari Jenkins gliding her way over under the sticks for her 2nd of the afternoon and an all important Bonus point try, again converted by Stiles 26-10.
With 10 minutes remaining Blaina throw everything they had at the Burry Port and it paid off with another try from a quick tap penalty of their own to reduce the score line to 26-17 and only a few minutes to play.
From the kick off Blaina went on the attack but were well marshalled by the defence which kept the home team in their own half. And from the last play of the game from a scrum Blaina threw the ball wide to score a very good try and get the losing point and try bouns point they deserved from their efforts.
However the afternoon most definitley belonged to the Girls in Black, from 1-15 they were fantastic and the victory will bouy confidence right through the squad and the Bouns point victory means Burry Port remain top of Division 2.
GREAT EFFORT GIRLS......
