After 6 weeks without a game the Blacks traveled to table toppers Penclawdd. The weather was wet and windy but the pitch held up well to the elements.
The home team started off the brighter and with the wind on their backs gained early territory advantage, Burry Port were struggling to clear their lines and from a charged down kick penclawdd got the 1st try.
When Burry Port did manage to get the ball inside the opposition half they looked dangerous and after a good spell managed to cross the tryline after a powerful lineout drive, Burry Port had another couple of oppurtunities to score again and take the lead only for a couple of costly errors to deny them, and to make things worse for the away team Penclawdd managed to turn the ball and score a try on their own to strecth the lead, and a successful penalty attempt seen the half time score 15-5 to the home team.
With the strong wind behind them in the 2nd half Burry Port were still well in the game and would have been confident of closing the gap and putting pressure on the league leaders but in truth the Blacks just couldnt get their game together and looked every bit a team who hadnt played for 6 weeks, error after error give the ball back to the home team and with serval good carriers in thier ranks made Burry Port pay for the mistakes, 2 tries midway through the half give Penclawdd a bonus point and with Burry Port contining to be their own worse enemy managed to score again to put the gloss on a very efficent performance from the home side.
Final score 40-5, and Burry Port returned home with tails between thier legs, and knowing that if they are to compete in this league they have to cut down on the mistakes.
The Blacks have a chance to put things right this Saturday as they welcome Tycroes RFC to the Memorial Park 2:30 ko, and the Players know that the coaches and supporters are expecting a much better performance this week.
