Burry Port v New Dock Stars

New Dock Stars 10 – 24 Burry Port Following on from last Saturdays opening game of the season Burry Port made it two wins out of two with and improved performance away to Llanelli team New Dock Stars. On a glorious day Burry Port started well and looked threatening and with good pressure from Lock Bryn Jenkins charged down a clearing kick and gathered the ball to show good pace and race away for the opening try of the match. Ben Williams converted. New Dock Stars, who were promoted into this division after winning the 3 West C title last season have recruited well and their determination saw a clever chip and chase that resulted in well taken try for their winger. New Dock converted to bring the scores level. New Burry Port Backs coach, Ceiron Thomas ensured territorial advantage with some intelligent kicking, and later it was his pass that found winger Owen Thomas who cut a fine line to pierce the opposition defence and score an excellent try. Williams converted and added a penalty kick. The Blacks were looking sharp and created many chances, but the New Dock defence held out. Just before the interval a marginal decision saw Burry Port flanker, Tom Rees, who was named man of the match last week, yellow carded for a late tackle. Half Time 7 – 17. The second half continued in exciting fashion with New Dock scoring a penalty although it was Burry Port exerting the pressure but unfortunately not being able to finish off moves. It is credit to this young team that there was no panic and they stuck to the task of securing the victory with a controlled driving lineout wit skipper Dan Etteridge eventually touching down for Burry Port’s third try of the match. Williams converted. A bonus point was well within sight but with Owen Thomas and Darren Daniel coming close with a chip and chase they were unable to score and the Blacks had to settle for a 10 – 24 victory. Man of the match was awarded to skipper Dan Etteridge who, as usual, led by example and was at the heart of everything. The next league game sees Burry Port travel to much fancied Amman United on 24th September where a certain Shane Williams will be awaiting. There will be a bumper crowd expected for that game as both the Blacks and Amman United are unbeaten, and we can predict huge media interest in this fixture. This is great timing with the arrival of our brand new kit and it will ensure our sponsors can expect well deserved exposure. The first round of the Bowl takes place next week with Burry Port having a buy.
