Match Report. The Blacks hosted local rivals Trimsaran at the Memorial Park and in an entertaining match when honours were even. Burry Port started well and although Trimsaran looked sharp, it was the Blacks who took control of the game both territorially and through good possession. Scrum half Ben Williams slotted over a penalty and Llyr Sims crossed for two good tries with Williams adding a conversion in a first half that saw the Blacks dominate, and with a few chances going begging, the half time score was Burry Port 17 – 0 Trimsaran. The second period started off scrappily and Trimsaran disrupted the Burry Port line out and got good field position and put the Blacks on the back foot. Number 8 Richard Parker was yellow carded and this proved a turning point as the visitors scored 12 points when the Blacks were down to 14 men. Ben Williams struck a fine penalty to make the score 20-12 and this was cancelled out by a Trim penalty soon after to make it 20-15. With the Blacks coming back into the game a Williams long range penalty effort sailed wide, but the visitors hit back to score a breakaway try in the corner to draw level. The Blacks had most of the final plays with another penalty effort going agonisingly close, but it wasn’t to be with the ref blowing up for a 20 all draw. Final Score Burry Port 20 – 20 Trimsaran. Coach Gareth Gravell said “it was frustrating to have let slip a 17-nill lead but Trimsaran are a difficult team to beat and remain top of the division but we are two points behind them with two games in hand so there is still everything to play for this season. I know the areas we will need to improve on and this week we will focus in training and prepare for our big cup match on Saturday.” The Blacks take on Cowbridge in the 4th Round of the Bowl on Saturday 6th February, with a big crowd expected at the Memorial Park with a 2pm kick off.
