The Blacks travelled the long distance to Fishguard on Saturday and with a host of changes due to unavailbility and squad rotation this was always going to be a difficult challenge for the Boys.
The match started at a frantic pace with the home side quickly appling pressure to Burry Ports tryline but strong defence held them out. The rest of the half was played with Burry Port doing their best to spread the ball at every oppurtunity and the Fishguard pack making good yards around the fringes. Burry Port would have crossed the tryline on a couple of occassions had it not have been for some excellent scramble defence from the home side espically the Home team Captain.
However Burry Port did manage to cross the line first after spreading the ball across the pitch and getting the ball to strong running 2nd Row Micaiah Jones to galloped over in the corner with Gar Rees kicking the difficult conversion.
Burry Port continued to look the more likely to score but as the half drew to a close a break up field by Fishguard and plenty of phases in the Burry Ports 22 they managed to bulldoze over the line with the last play of the half, the conversion hit the post
Half Time Fishguard 5 Burry Port 7.
The second half started well for the visitors with a strong scrum resulting in a penalty that Gar Rees fired over to take a 5-10 lead.
The next score came soon after, when again some great interplay from backs and forwards put the home defence in disarray and from a close range ruck Gareth Gravell spotting the gap to sneak over close to the posts. Gar Rees again successful with the conversion. 5 -17.
The next score would have won the game the game for Burry Port and they came close to getting it with a couple of near misses with shots at goal, But from a Home team scrum in their own half they managed to break the Burry ports defence and race under the posts to close the gap to 12-17.
The game was now in the balance and Fishguard went all out to try and sneak the score that would snatch victory from Burry Port but a couple of fantastic turnovers when under pressure sealed possession and the away team managed to secure a well deserved victory.
The Blacks are back on the road next week as they travel to newly promoted side Pembroke RFC in what will be another acid test for Burry Port.
