Burry Port made the short journey to the hosting team Amman Utd with the knowledge that the home side were set to field former IRB Player of the year Shane Williams. With a BBC Television crew also there to film the game for a future documentary, the Burry Port players were very eager to impress.
The match was a very physical encounter from the first whistle, with some ferocious tackles being made by both sides. It wasnt too long before Burry Port found themselves leading the game 0 - 3, thanks to the trusted boot of Scrum Half Ben Williams. Shortly after, Amman Utd gained a penalty of their own, and brought the scores level. After some back and forth rugby, Ben Williams once again got his name on the scoresheet, after a superb kick from out wide, just inside the Amman half, took the score to 3 - 6. Around five minutes later after a burst down the wing from Shane Williams, Burry Port were found guilty for infringement at the breakdown, with the Amman goal kicker bringing the scores level.
Near the end of the first half, Amman Utd had a strong scrum near the Burry Port try line, which allowed them to then go on and score in the corner. Their goal kicker then went on to convert, to make the score at half time 13 - 6 to the hosts.
The second half continued in the same way as the first half ended, with Amman United running in 2 more tries, converting one, to make the final score 25 - 6.
Despite the scoreline making the game seem one sided, This wasnt the case as Burry Port fought right up until the end, and if it wasnt for a few handling errors, things could have been much closer. There were plenty of positives to take in to the next fixture at home to local rivals Trimsaran.
