1^st October 2016 was a very memorable one for Burry Port, as they beat local rivals Trimsaran, in very convincing fashion. From the offset, Burry Port showed clear dominance, both in attack and defence. After some early pressure, dominance in the scrum, and good lineout work, Trimsaran found themselves a man short in the pack after a yellow card was handed out for infringement in the maul. Soon after, another rolling maul was set, and was too powerful for Trimsaran, who once again were found guilty of infringement, which saw the referee go under the posts to award a penalty try to Burry Port. This was succesfully converted by scrum half, Ben Williams

The second try of the afternoon, came from a lineout ten yards out. After some good work in the air by Bryn Jenkins, the rolling maul was once again set, and much to powerful, as Number 8 Dylan Evans was on hand to bundle over.

Not much longer after, Burry Port found themselves in a similar situation, as once again, another rolling maul close to the oppositions try line, saw Richard Parker peel off, and bundle his way over for the teams third try.

An exellent running angle by openside flanker Tom Rees, and a clean line break, led to the fourth try, as the ball was recycled very quickly, and then some good hands from the backs, saw former Scarlet Darren Daniel, dive over out wide to earn his team the all important bonus point.

The second half started much the same way as the first, with some excellent work from the pack, both going forward and in defence. A beautifully measured kick by captain Daniel Etteridge led to the teams fifth try, as after stealing the lineout, a lot of pressure was put on the tiring Trimsaran defence, eventually leading to the referee yet again being forced to go under the posts to award the second penalty try of the match. The conversion was kicked by Ben Williams.

The final score of the game for Burry Port, was possibly the best. After turning the ball over in their own half, and a surge down the wing, the ball was passed back inside, offloaded back outside, and finally offloaded back inside, to blinside flanker Llyr Sims, who dived over just to the right of the posts, to round off a sensational move. The conversion was good once again by Ben Williams.

The last piece of play of the game was a thriller to say the least. After an unlikely line break by second row Bryn Jenkins, and a clever pass outside to Iwan Roberts, who had switched outside, saw the hooker almost  over in the corner, but was stopped, and put in to touch just short by two covering tacklers.

This was a thoroughly pleasing by performance by Burry Port, who will have plenty of positives to take from it, leading into their next game, away to Banwen in the Welsh Cup. We hope to see many of you up there to support the boys, as it really does lift them!
