BURRY HELD TO A DRAW

BURRY PORT V LLANDYBIE

With the away team turning up with only 15 players and electing to start the game with passive scrums it was always going to be a frustrating afternoon for all players and supporters concerned.

Both teams were intent to play some decent rugby but with the breakdown a complete lottery and penalities being awarded aginst both teams at nearly ever ruck and maul there didnt seem much that the players coiuld do.

Burry Port were denied a good early try after some good interplay seen the ball get to No.8 Dylan Evans and with a lovely little pass put Rhys Gravell in for what would have been a certain try, but was called up for forward  pass to evryones surprise.

There were many more interesting decisions throughout the game and with the crowd making  their frustrations known the game started to become a bit of a farce, Llandybie were reduced to 14 after a yellow card for repeat offences and then went down to 13 for a short spell after the ref carded another, but with the stop start nature of the game Burry Port were unable to capitalise on the advantage.

Burry Port were also on the recieving end of many penalties which contined to interupt the flow of the game.

Half Time score Burry Port 0 Llandybie 3

Second half contined as the 1st with the referee appearing to lose control of the game around the breakdown with resulted in both set of players trying to ref the game themselves which led to many discussions with the referee.

There was a couple of decent patches of play one of which led to a lovely break down the wing by scrumhalf Ashley Phillips only for him to be stopped by a high tackle 5 meters out which left him injured on the floor for a couple of minutes, there was the inevitible little bit of handbags after the tackle that didnt seem too much to everyone watching. After the short break due to the injury the ref called both captains over and reached into his pocket and issued 3 Red Cards, 2 to Llandybie and 1 to Burry Port. Very Harsh to say to the least, after that the game went to pieces, with penalities contining to be awarded against both teams. Llandybie managed to kick a penalty to led 6-0 but Burry Port hit back with a powerful drive by Rhys Gravell converted by Ben Wolliams to take a 7-6 led and after a few attempts at a 5m driving lineout managed to cross again through Captain Andy Francis to led 12-6.

A Yellow card to Burry Port Dylan Evans  reduced it to 13 a side and with LLandybie kicking two more penalities the game was level at 12- all. Another yellow was issued to Burry Port Hooker Iwan Roberts but turned into a Red Card on the hookers appeal to the Ref,

So with the final 10 minutes being played 12 against 13 neither side could create the winning score. The final whistle was at last blown to everyones relief to the end the game in a 12-12 draw.
