Burry Port 61 – 7 Lampeter Town
Blacks score 9 tries to take a huge step towards the league title. On a glorious day in front of a sizable crowd, the Memorial Park faithful were treated to a rugby master-class by a young Burry Port squad, and put League hopefuls Lampeter Town to the sword. The two teams had met 3 weeks earlier at Lampeter, and Burry Port came away with a crushing 37 – nil victory that ended Lampeter’s promotion hopes. The rich vein of form has continued this season as Burry Port have rotated their squad and kept players fresh and hungry, and this was on view on Saturday as the Blacks continue to play expansive and exciting rugby that has broken down well organised defences this season. This was the case with Lampeter providing stubborn resistance early on, but once their defensive line was breached it was one way traffic with Number 8 Dylan Evans stealing the show with a superb hat-trick of tries. The mix of power at set piece and pace out wide makes it difficult to stop, and interplay between backs and forwards have created a fluid style of play that offers no respite for their opposition. Tom Rees, Luke Rudall, Tom Bowen, Andy Francis, Adam Davies and Adam Rudall also touched down, with Ben Williams finding his kicking boots slotting over 8 conversions. The Memorial Park support has steadily grown this season and there will be another bumper crowd expected this Saturday as 3rd Placed Nantgaredig visit. They will bring a strong physical challenge and the Blacks will need to remain focused on the job in hand as the league title is within touching distance. Coach Gareth Gravell said ‘I’m glad the boys got to show their skills in the second half and it was another good performance to break down a strong and determined Lampeter team. We are looking forward to next Saturday and will be working hard on our game plan. The boys appreciate the support they are getting and I urge everyone to get down to do the same Saturday in what could be a special day for the club.’
