Llandeilo 7 - 27 Burry Port Burry Port travelled to Llandeilo and produced a fine display to come away with a winning bonus point and climb above Llandeilo in the table. It started well for the Blacks with territorial dominance and sustained pressure in Llandeilo’s 22, eventually leading to Oliver Dunleavy crossing in the corner. Ben Williams converted from wide. Burry Port controlled many aspects of the game with set piece going well and with a good mix of interplay between forwards and backs, Burry Port looked dangerous and threatened on many occasions. From a lineout the Blacks spread the ball and Centre Duane Evans with a powerful run hit a good angle to score under the posts. Williams converted and added a penalty to make the half time score 17 nil to Burry Port. The second half saw much of the same with territorial advantage for the Blacks and a number of line-outs close to the Llandeilo try line putting the home defence under huge pressure. It could have been a frustrating afternoon with Burry Port being penalised twice as they crossed the tryline, but it was a test of character that the team remained patient and kept applying the pressure. With Iwan Roberts and Dylan Evans prominent, the forwards were getting on top and made good yards downfield, and it was a clever cross kick that found speedy winger Owen Thomas who out-paced a scrambling Llandeilo defence to score out wide. With 10 minutes to go Burry Port got the 4th try securing a bonus point when open-side flanker Tom Rees broke free and raced in for a well deserved try. The last play of the game saw Llandeilo put together their best move of the match and a converted try was their only reward in a game that was dominated by the visitors. Coach Gareth Gravell was pleased with the workmanlike performance and how the team are maturing. “That was a tricky game and to come away from Llandeilo with a winning bonus point shows how much the squad has developed.” The Blacks climb above Llandeilo in the league, and with leaders Amman Utd struggling to beat Trimsaran, the extra bonus point places pressure on the leaders. There is still plenty to play for this season and a big crowd is expected when Burry Port host unbeaten Nantgaredig at the Memorial Park, 2.30 kick off, on Saturday 22 October, in what promises to be the stand out game of the division.
