Match Report Penybanc away 25-3-17

In glorious sunshine the Blacks travelled to Penybanc for thier seond encounter against them within three weeks.

The game started in good fashion with both sides looking to play some open rugby but it must be said the only person the crowd was talking about was the referee...... Both set of fans were left flabagasted at a few decisions none more so than when Burry Port hooker Iwan Roberts was given a final warning of being awarded a yellow card after only five minutes for not throwing in straight, ( after  only three lineouts)??????

Anyway when the teams were allowed to play some rugby they produced some tidy passages of play, with Penybanc looking a much better side than they did a couple of weeks ago but it was Burry Port who held the upper hand taking an early lead. The home team hit back and only trailed 8-7 for most of the half untill Burry Port scored another try on the stroke of half-time.

Half time

Penybanc 7 Burry Port 15

The first 10 of the 2nd half were very evenly contested and the all important bonus point try seemed a long way off but with a very impressive five minute purple patch burry Port scored two well taken tries to secure the 4 try Bouns point and the game seemingly won leading 29 - 7. However Penybanc had other ideas and with Burry Port reduced to 14 men after flanker Tom Rees recieved a yellow they applied some sustained pressure and were rewarded with 2 well executed tries to reduce the score to 29 - 19. Burry Port started to look a little bit worried and righly so because as soon as they were back up to 15 players they recieved another yellow card to Player/coach Cieron Thomas and no sooner had a walked off Penybanc found themselves right back in the game with a length of the field move to score near the posts but the kicker failed with the easy attempt. Score now 29-24 and less then 10 minutes remained.

The Burry Port faithful started to think the worse and with Penybanc playing with a bit of confidence this game was anyones for the taking.

And to their credit the Blacks stepped it up a few gears and showed some real quality to finish off, scoring two tries in as many minutes to close out a game that was too close for comfort at times.

This game was another sign that even though they were nowhere near their best the team can still come away from home and secure a bouns point victory.

Final Score

Penybac 24 Burry Port 41

Well Done Boys.
