Match Report Penybanc home 11-3-17

Burry Port welcomed Penybanc to the Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon as they looked to maintain their league form.

The Blacks got off to a good start keeping the ball and running hard at the Penybanc defence, some good defensive work by Penybanc kept the home team out but after some big carries by the Burry Port pack Powerful loose head prop Mathew Gower broke through and run in under the postes from 30m out. Ben Williams converted the easy kick.

The rest of the half was all Burry Port and with Captain Etteridge controlling matters from outside half with a good mix of running rugby and some excellent kicking. The pressure looked like it was telling on the Penybanc team and with a couple of quick fire tries, one from Ben Williams who caught the defence napping with a quick tap and go 5m out to dive over and a fine try from Dane Etteridge who finished off a line break from No.8 Dylan Evans to canter in under the posts.

Burry Port kept the pressure the on searching for the all important bonus point try and it paid off as just before the Ref blew for half time some slick handling from the backs released winger Adam Davies who finished off in style to round of a very decent half with the Bouns point try.

Half Time Burry Port 28 Penybanc 0

After such a dominant 1st half and Penybanc having to play the second period with 14 men due to injury everyone expected the flood gates to open but to the vistors credit that was far from the case. Penybanc stepped up the defence effort and started to take the game to home team and can count them selves unlucky not to get on the scorce board after many visits into Burry Ports 22.

Burry Port were still playing some nice rugby but the final pass or the wrong decision cost them a couple of tries.

The Burry Port replacements brought some new energy to to game and added to some very decent performances again from a number of the team, Simon Beven contolled the scrums for the full 80 minutes, Dylan Evans carried well as usual and 2nd Row Rhyd Jenkins put in another MOM display with some big hits.

The Final 10mins seen Penybanc visabaly tire as can be expected after such a defence effort from the team but it still took some excellent handling from Burry Ports backline to create the space for winger Luke Rudall to finish off the only score of the half and cap a fine individual performance from himself too.
