Blacks power through Llandeilo challenge

On Saturday 28th January, Llandeilo RFC were the visitors to Burry Port Memorial Park in the next round of league action. In what were dry but cold conditions, both teams were out to play some good running rugby, and produced an exciting match.

Not long after the match had started, Burry Port were immediately in the Llandeilo half after some good ball carrying. The first score of the afternoon went to Blacks wing Adam Davies who was able to gather a crossfield kick to score out wide, with the extras added by Ben Williams.

Llandeilo responded with a penalty goal wich was awarded after Burry Port were found guilty of holding on to the ball on the floor.

About five minutes later, the 2nd try of the game was scored, after some good passing and offloading skills, Blacks hooker Iwan Roberts finished off what was a well worked bit of play out wide. The conversion attempt went wide.

The visitors were next to score after some hard work getting into the Burry Port 22. Some good running by the forwards eventually led to Llandeilo scoring near the posts and converting to make the score 12 – 10.

Adam Davies was on hand to score the next try once again as he proved to be to quick for the Llandeilo defence as he raced over out wide, with the extras being added by scrum half Ben Williams once again.

The final try of the half was thanks to number 8 Dylan Evans who showed good strength and determination to cross the line after receiving the ball from the base of a ruck close to the line. Williams slotted the extras to make the score at half time 26 – 10.

In the second half, Llandeilo held on to the ball for a while in their own half as they plugged their way up field. Some good defence from Burry Port however forced the visitors to kick the ball and try and win the territorial battle. Burry Port gathered and went further up field, and that eventually led to some good passing which created a huge overlap that wing Adam Davies took full advantage of to get his hattrick.

The final two scores of the game went to Adam Davies yet again who rounded off a fine display by himself when he spotted a big gap in the tired defence and exploited it and raced his way over with one of those being converted by Steff Powell to make the final score Burry Port 43 – 10 Llandeilo.
