Disappointing loss for Blacks

After some excellent recent results in the league the Blacks were hopeful of another good performance in front of the Home crowd aginst Visitors Pontarddulais in the 1st Rd of the WRU PLATE.

However it was the Visitors  who got off to the better start and set the tone for the rest of the game. Burry Port did show some good signs with ball in hand but it ended up with too many unforced errors on most occassions and with Pontarddulais taking their oppurtunities they managed to start building a decent lead.

Burry Port were still in the game at half time and needed to score early if they were to be in with a chance to win this game, and from the restart Burry Port managed to apply some pressure and with the tryline in range another unfroced error give possession back to the visitors who raced up field to score anoother good try.

Now the Blacks were playing catch up rugby and things started to go from bad to worse, Fullback rudall was sent off for leading with his arm into contact, probally not even a penalty last season but with the way rugby is now trying to protect the players the referee had no choice to award a red card.

Down to 14 and over 30 minutes to play was never going to be easy..... The Blacks continued not to help themseleves and frustration clearly set in which only hampered any chance of a comeback.

Burry Port soon found themseleves down to 13 as Flanker Oli Davies also saw red for a no arm tackle, this seemed a harsh decision as it looked as if the tackler tried pulling out of the tackle as the player passed the ball.

Pontarddulais were enjoying the advantage of numbers and managed to create and finish a couple more oppurtunities to strecth the lead and finish the game off in decent fashion.

Burry Port will need to dust themselves off quickly and will be looking to make a mends for a disappointing performance when they get back into league action next week as they welcome Tumble to the park.
