Burry Port v Tenby

The 1st Team welcomed Division 1 team Tenby United to the Memorial park for the first preseason game of the year.

Burry Port used the game to give some new players and those who have steped up from last years Youth Team a chance to impress. The game was played in wet and windy conditions and both teams can be excused for a few mistakes. It was an evenly matched game throughout with the Blacks having the better of the open play exchanges and Tenby better at lineouts while the scrums were also evenly contested.

Both teams came close to scoring in the 1st half but failed to get over the tryline and with Burry Port turning down a few kickable pens the half ended 0-0.

The second half was more of the same with both teams getting through plenty of phases and after a long period in the Tenby 22 Burry Port got the opening score through tighthead prop Archie Davies to lead 5-0.

The game was now drawing to a close and Burry Port were doing their best to hold the Tenby side out but in the last minute of the game and with Burry Port down to 14 men afetr a yellow card Tenby were awarded a 5 meter scrum and from the resulting backs play manged to cross near the posts with the conversion going over to sneak a 7-5 win.

So overall there is plenty to work on but also plenty of positives to take from the game too and the coaches were pleased with a number of the Boys performanes.

Next week the 1st team travel to another Division 1 side LLangennech RFC for a Friday night game 7:30 KO
